Traditional solar terms have always been more or less related to "eating".
People in the south of the Yangtze River will eat a bowl of "Lixia Rice" on the Beginning of Summer; while in people's homes in the north, "all kinds of noodles" are the protagonists on the Beginning of Summer table.
Beginning of summer rice
Beginning of Summer rice is a traditional food in the south during the Beginning of Summer solar term. Traditional Beginning of Summer rice is made of five kinds of ingredients into five-color rice.
Many areas in the south still retain the custom of eating Beginning of Summer rice during the Beginning of Summer.
Folklore says that eating Japanese beans and rice in the Beginning of Summer is related to the Qi Army's anti-Japanese war. At that time, the Qi Army fought against Japanese pirates at Qijia Mountain at the mouth of the Yongjiang River in Zhenhai. Every time the soldiers killed a Japanese pirate, they would pick a broad bean nearby and string it on their chests. The more broad beans there are, the more enemies you kill, which is extra honorable.

Beginning of summer rice

- 1. Defang organic rice〡1 bowl
- 1. Glutinous rice〡1 bowl
- 2. Carrot〡1/2 root
- 3. Shiitake mushroom〡5 pcs
- 4. Sausage〡3 pieces
- 5. Peas〡1 bowl
- 6. Onion〡1/2
· Additional Ingredients ·
- 1. Light soy sauce | 2 tablespoons
· Instructions ·
- 1. Peel a bowl of peas, dice carrots, onions, mushrooms, and dice sausage.
- 2. Mix Defang organic rice and glutinous rice evenly and rinse thoroughly.
- 3. Put oil in the pot, stir-fry the diced vegetables and sausage until fragrant. Do not fry until cooked.
- 4. Add rice and pour two tablespoons of light soy sauce. Stir well and pour into the rice cooker.
- 5. Sprinkle a bowl of green beans, add water and vegetable pellets to equalize, and press the cooking button.
- 6. Once cooked, serve.
